VISION + Friends - A Benefit Concert for Ukraine (SOP)

The third concert in a series of benefit concerts supporting organizations that provide resources to Ukrainian refugees and Ukrainians currently in Ukraine.

  • Performing works by Antonín Dvorák, David Popper, Florence Price, Gabriella Lena Frank, Jean-Marie Leclair, Mykola Lysenko, Myroslav Skoryk, Valentin Silvestrov, and Yuliy Meitus.

  • All proceeds from this event will go to Sunflower of Peace, helping them to provide medical assistance and aid to Ukrainian orphans, internally displaced persons, and those most affected by the Russian military invasion. Since February 2022, Sunflower of Peace has saved many lives by acquiring and distributing hundreds of first-aid backpacks, medicine, and medical instruments to healthcare workers in Ukraine.

  • Performing works by Antonín Dvorák, Caroline Shaw, Jean-Baptiste Barrière, Jean-Marie Leclair, Mykola Lysenko, Myroslav Skoryk, and Rebecca Clarke.

  • All proceeds from this event will go to the Ukrainian Community Center of Washington, helping them to meet the needs of displaced Ukrainian Refugees. According to the UNHCR, 13,379,780 refugees crossed the border of Ukraine since Feb 24, 2022.

  • Performing works by David Popper, Gabriella Lena Frank, Mark O'Connor, Mykola Lysenko, Myroslav Skoryk, Osvaldo Golijov, and Valentin Silvestrov.

  • All proceeds from this event will go to the Kyiv School of Economics Foundation, helping them to restore destroyed infrastructure in Ukraine. The KSE Foundation has teamed up with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education of Ukraine to rebuild destroyed clinics and hospitals and renovate bomb shelters in Ukrainian schools.

  • Performed works by Arnold Schoenberg, Béla Bartók, Hirono Borter, Mary Kouyoumdjian, and Milad Yousufi.

  • Intermission interview with Yuki Numata Resnick, Executive Director of Buffalo String Works and Snow, a Buffalo String Works student.

  • This event raised $1,189.85 for Buffalo String Works, helping them to deliver world class music education to diverse youth that inspires personal and community transformation.

  • Performed an Armenian Folk Song, a Mongolian/Chinese Folk Song, and works by György Ligeti, Komitas, Heinrich Wilhelm Ernst, Milad Yousufi, and Antonín Dvořák.

  • Intermission interview with Lana Zring, Donor Care Coordinator of Preemptive Love.

  • This event raised $1,420 for Preemptive Love.

  • This fall, we were featured at two virtual book tour events in support of the release of While the Earth Sleeps, We Travel written by our friend Ahmed Badr. Ahmed is a writer, social entrepreneur, poet, and former refugee from Iraq. 

  • The launch event was hosted by The Strand Bookstore, NYC.

  • Conversation with Ahmed Badr and Ben Stiller.

  • Performed “Aylan” by Milad Yousufi.

2019 Refugee Camp Tour in Collaboration with Concerts for Compassion

  • Performed one concert at each of three refugee camps in central Germany, interacting with 120 children and adults from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, and Turkey.  

  • Performed arrangements and originals by: Hunter Hanson, Tengku Irfan, Nick Marsella, J.P. Redmond, Iván Enrique Rodríguez, Horacio Fernández Vázquez, and Aaron Wolff.

  • Received the George J. Jakab Global Enrichment Grant from the Juilliard School for this trip.
